OSN Board Member Earl Hatley  - An Environmental Justice Advocate celebrated in The Current and applauded by Robert F Kennedy, Jr

"Earl Hatley is a stalwart advocate for environmental justice and everyone’s right to clean water.  He is a highly regarded organizer who has rallied his community to force government to address the toxic brew of massive mining, coal-fired power plant, and factory farm pollution in the Grand River watershed." Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

Earl Hatley: Portrait of an Oklahoma activist
by Bridget K. Wood
Earl Hatley has changed thousands of people’s lives for the better, and yet many may not know his name.  The reason for this is simple: Earl does not do what he does for fame, and he most certainly does not do it for fortune. Earl is an environmental activist because it is his calling. This man has lived his life fulfilling a purpose that was laid out to him during a vision quest many years ago and that he has stayed true to ever since.  Read the full article...

Local Food Guide for Green Country

Check out the 2008 Local Food Guide for Green Country. With the support of many partners, this is one of OSN's major projects. Outstanding work from OSN members Leslie Moyer, Rita Scott, Chad Settle, Karen Cline, and Doug Walton of the Kerr Center. You can download an electronic copy here.

From Wednesday's Tulsa World: Rita Scott of Sustainable Green Country and Doug Walton of the Kerr Center knew farmers who wanted to get the word out about their crops, and they knew plenty of people who were more than happy to drive the extra miles for local produce. Their problem was finding a way to connect the two. The problem is solved in the Buy Fresh Buy Local food guide, a production of the Kerr Center for Sustainable Agriculture and the Oklahoma Sustainability Network. The food guide features listings of farmers by what they produce - nuts, dairy, meat, fruits, vegetables, honey, even Christmas trees - and then lists them by county.
