NATIVE PLANT AND SEED SOURCES Website OK osu-ns03.cis.okstate.edu
Many local nurseries are slowly beginning to carry native plants in their
stock. If yours does not, let them know that you wish them to carry more
native plants. Following are current native plant and seed producers:
inclusion on these lists carries no official endorsement. When ordering
wildflower seed, ask about the seed source. Seed grown out of state or out
of the region is less likely to be adapted to Oklahoma's varied climate.
Also, when comparing prices, the purity and germination rate of the seed
should be considered.

OKLAHOMA ORGANIC GARDEN PLANNER Guidebook, Multi-media, Materials OK shop.oklahomafood.org/category_producers.php?subcategory_id=74 I would like to alert the Oklahoma sustainability community to this new
resources. The author is Bill Smith, who is an Oklahoma County Master
Gardener with many years of organic gardening experience right here in
central Oklahoma. Garden planners are a dime a dozen in the marketplace,
but I am not aware of any other organic garden planner that is specifically
written for the central Oklahoma gardener, by someone with actual
productive experience growing organic vegetables. The planner is
available through the Oklahoma Food Cooperative,
but non-members can order the planner by contacting him directly at:
One or two copies are $15.00 each, plus $2.75 per book for postage. You
can contact him about picking them up in person and saving the postage.
Cooperative members who order it on the December order will not have to pay
postage, it will be delivered with their monthly food order.
He also has a new booklet, "Growing and Using the Top Ten Culinary Herbs".
It is $5.00 plus postage if sent through the mail.

Plant A Row for the Hungry Organization Lawton/Ft. Sill area GARDENERS WANTED:
Many of America's 70 million gardeners grow more fruits and
vegetables than they can consume. If all gardeners planted just one
more row of vegetables and donated the surplus to the needy, they
could eradicate hunger in this country.
Plant A Row for the Hungry (PAR) was started in 1995 when a garden
writer invited readers to plant one extra row of vegetables in their
gardens for those in need. There has been a bumper crop of
responses: In 2005 alone, 1.4 million pounds of home-grown produce
was donated to food banks and shelters, resulting in meals for more
than 5.5 million people.
This is the first year PAR will be organized in the Lawton/Ft. Sill
area. We have been working diligently to spread the word and get as
many gardeners as possible to plant an extra row of vegetables. In
becoming a volunteer you will truly help feed the hungry in your own
community. All you need to do is plant an extra row, and when it is
time to harvest the vegetables, just take them to the Lawton Food
Bank which is located at 1405 SW 20th in Lawton. The Lawton Food
Bank's hours of operation are 9:00am - 4:00pm Mon - Fri and their
phone number is 353-7994. There will also be an after hours drop
off point which will be located at 1502 SW Deyo Mission Rd
(appointments for after hours drop off are necessary, call 704-9343
to arrange a time.) You will get a tax deductible receipt for your
donation. Your participation is GREATLY APPRECIATED.
