The business meeting notes are pasted below.  Please take a few moments to review...put some of the spring event dates on your 2009 calendar and think about campaigns you'd like to promote in the new year.
 
To pay dues (optional), send $10 to Sustainable Stillwater, PO Box 2362, Stillwater, OK 74076.  Dues and donations are used to offset the costs of printing SustSTW program materials (including the Stillwater Recycling Guide, which is updated each year); supplies/materials for outreach and/or educational displays; listserv hosting; and, P.O. Box rental.
 
A separate email will be sent soon to gage your interest in the next Green Drinks Stillwater.  Stay tuned!
 
 
 
Sustainable Stillwater Meeting Notes

In attendance: Cheryl Baker, Mavonna Ellis, Ilda Hershey, Jenny Lim, Sharla Lovern, Val Millheim, Linda Sanders
 
 
SustSTW Mission & Relation to OSN
·         -Sustainable Stillwater is one of 9 chapters of the Oklahoma Sustainability Network
·         -Reviewed our chapter’s mission and objectives, which can be found here: www.oksustainability.org/sstw/about-sustainable-stillwater.php
 
Spring 2009 Activities & Events
·         -OSN’s 8th Annual Conference will be Friday & Saturday, March 21-22 at UCO in Edmond; we will arrange carpools from Stillwater to attend.
·         -Keep Oklahoma Beautiful’s Great American Clean-up can be done from March 1 – May 31.  We will join the City of Stillwater’s efforts once those are announced.
·         -ODOT’s Statewide Trash-Off is scheduled for April 18, which conflicts with the STW Arts & Heritage Festival April 18-19.
·         -EarthFest Week April 20-24 to be organized by ECO-OSU on the campus library lawn; we will table on Earth Day, Wednesday April 22.
·         -Pizza & Documentary Nights – Suggestion was made to partner with the OK Water Resources Research Institute to show 3-4 water related documentaries at Hideaway in the spring.  Ilda will check with Mike Langston, OWRRI.
·         -Green Drinks – the next one will be at Aggie’s Big House.  The listserv will be polled for best time and date.
·         -Storm Drain Marking – we will check with the City about continuing to help.
 
Event Recycling Opportunities
·         -Arts & Heritage Festival April 18 & 19 – we will check with organizers to see if the vendors will be selling recyclable containers (there were not enough recyclable containers to collect at the September Blues Festival event).
·         -Recycling bins for event recycling – we can borrow from ODEQ.
 
Campaigns
·         -Cool Cities – discussion about pursuing with current mayor.  City is changing streetlights to LED, which is in line with the campaign goals.
·         -Reusable Shopping Bags – Jenny will discuss pursuing this campaign with her student business entrepreneur group.
·         -PAYT (Pay As You Throw) Recycling & Composting – discussion regarding supporting City’s efforts of automated garbage pick-up, potential for a compost facility and possible future curbside recycling program.  Use listserv to promote participation in City meetings, emailing city council members, and writing editorials/letters to the editor.
·         -Water Conservation Education – Information about funding of demonstration projects will be shared once received from OSN; spread the word about this opportunity- grants will range from $500-$7000.
·         -Community Gardening – Sharla reported that proposals to the City would have a better chance if made by a 501(c)3 group specific to community gardening.  Contacts in OKC and Boulder may help. The parks director could identify land suitable for gardening.  Discussion about existing garden on campus near student family housing and actual need for community gardening elsewhere as most residents have garden space.
 
Elections of Officers
·         -Linda Sanders was nominated and elected Treasurer.
·         -Mavonna Ellis was nominated and elected Secretary.
·         -Cheryl Baker and Ilda Hershey will co-chair.
 
New Business
·         -Dues of $10 were collected.  Reimbursements need to be made for PO Box rental and Recycling Guide printings.
·         -Green Drinks Stillwater – need chair.  Will solicit via listserv.
·         -New printing and format of Stillwater Recycling Guides – Supplies were given to meeting attendees for distribution to organizations featured in the guide.
